The Nursery Day
The Nursery at West Hill Park is a self-contained building within a spacious, fenced garden with access to the Sports Hall, Indoor Heated Swimming Pool, Music School and the School Dining Room.
The Nursery day is planned to give your child a rich variety of activity. Planned creative work, group activities, free play and more formal learning sessions are all part of the nursery day. Children's capabilities are wide at this age, and they benefit enormously from the one-to-one sessions with their Key Worker.
A structured programme is designed to establish good foundations for future learning. Within the Early Learning Goals children are introduced to a wide variety of pre-reading, pre-writing and mathematical skills, moving on as they progress to a wide variety of reading, writing and number activities. This helps to develop their dexterity, social behaviour, numeracy and literacy skills.
Children learn through play and constructive and creative work. We provide a happy, safe environment for your child to develop at its own rate, to ensure a solid foundation for future learning.
Play Time - Weather permitting, the children play outside, in the Nursery garden, where there is a large playhouse, sturdy climbing frame and exciting play area. We aim for some outdoor play everyday. The garden is safely fenced and the children can be seen at all times by the supervising Staff. We also take advantage of the extensive school grounds for nature walks.
Free Choice – Creative Play - At these times the children are free to choose from a wide range of activities, including painting, cutting, play dough and sand and water play. A large, fully equipped Home Corner, where the themes are changed regularly to fit in with the topics, encourages imaginative play. Books are always available for the children especially in the Quiet Room and they have a story at the end of each day.
