A Prep School Education
A Preparatory School is historically a place where children are prepared for life at their Senior School. This task has many strands and forms the basis for our curriculum at West Hill Park.
At its most basic level we undertake to inform parents about the admissions procedures for a wide range of senior schools and to advise on the suitability of these schools for their child. The processes for gaining a place at a school are many and varied and the level of academic success demanded can be wide-ranging. We endeavour to keep abreast of these requirements and to prepare pupils as fully as we can.
On a broader level, it is our duty to prepare children for life in a Senior School. We aim to foster a love of learning and an ability to work independently. We hope to provide a breadth of curriculum which allows each child to find their own strengths and to flourish accordingly. Differentiated lessons and tasks allow children to progress at their own speed. The pupil learns that as part of a community they have rights and responsibilities to each other and to the school as a whole. Self-confidence grows as children mature and take on roles within the school as prefects, as actors, as sportsmen and women and as role models to other pupils. We provide a programme of activities that encourages children to try something new and to find hidden talents.
