The Tutor System
At West Hill Park, each child has a Tutor with whom they can discuss all aspects of school life, including any worries they may have. The Tutor has responsibility for the academic and pastoral welfare of each of the children in their care. Parents are actively encouraged to see their child's Tutor as often as possible to establish a healthy partnership between home and school.
For children in Years 3 to 6, the Tutor is also the Form Taker. They will see their tutees every morning and for prep later in the afternoon. This contact time is vital to establishing a rapport between Tutor and tutee. In addition, there is dedicated time each week when tutor group meetings take place.
In Years 7 and 8, children are assigned to a small tutor group. Their Tutor will remain the same through both years in order to provide them with continuity at this crucial stage of their school careers. Tutees will see their Tutor every morning and for prep, as well as at tutor group meetings which take place twice a week.
