We are very fortunate to have a purpose built art studio, which was converted from an old barn. This is comprised of a large double room which is used for all lessons and also a separate pottery area with an attached kiln room. The rooms are flooded with light, having high ceilings, with plentiful skylights and windows. This environment is a creative and stimulating place to work in both formal and informal situations.
Our aim is to develop a love of creating for its own sake; to enjoy and learn from all aspects of the process, from sketches to finished
pieces and from all levels of ability. We encourage the children to develop a visual awareness and vocabulary so that they can learn to ‘see' rather than look at the world around them.
It is to provide within their creative and imaginative work the facility and encouragement for the children to express their ideas and feelings and to discover the satisfaction and pleasure that can
be derived from the creative process.
The children will be introduced to a wide range of artists and cultures and they will be encouraged to explore the ideas and meanings behind the work.
Throughout, the children will evaluate their own and others work, adapting and refining their own work in the light of these evaluations.
The projects undertaken will be structured so that pupils of varying abilities can achieve personal success, gain in confidence and enjoy the subject. To facilitate this end we expose the children to a very wide variety of media to give everyone the opportunity to excel. We cover traditional drawing and painting but also use acrylics and water-based oil paints which the children love. We have a printing press which allows many different techniques to be explored.

The children sculpt in clay, wire mod-roc and even create pieces in stone. We display everyone's work and also create large pieces for display around the school grounds. These include wire pieces, painting on wood in acrylic and mosaics. We link with other subjects in many areas and IT is used extensively. The children particularly enjoy creating their animations in Year 6.We hope that by the time the children leave they will have developed a confidence in their ability and even if they find certain areas of the subject difficult, they will still be able to take away the love and knowledge that they can excel in their own particular area or medium.
