Science

Science at West Hill stimulates and excites pupils’ curiosity. Practical experience at all ages ensures enjoyment and is vital in building a sound knowledge and understanding of the subject. Critical and reflective thinking leads pupils to understand how major scientific ideas may affect their own lives.

Initially children develop the scientific skills which underpin learning in this subject and gradually progress to more advanced types of collaborative practical work; the use of Bunsen burners and chemicals create the type of excitement never to be forgotten!

As pupils reach our older year groups, the three separate sciences become more defined and they are challenged to be ambitious for their own learning. Beyond the classroom all pupils have the opportunity to take part in visits to a variety of venues; enter challenges and competitions organised by Public Schools; use the extensive school grounds and pond for practical study.
