Geography

Children at West Hill Park are encouraged to discover where they fit in the natural, physical world. Pupils think independently as they conduct fieldwork investigations both here on the extensive school site, but also on field trips to Swanage and the Jurassic Coast.  Our geography lessons are set up for 21st Century Learning as pupils solve problems using digital mapping and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) so that they will extend their knowledge of locations and investigate patterns and processes within the human and physical world.

Extensive use is made of technology in the department and the children get the opportunity to express their geographical knowledge whilst making films, slide shows and podcasts.  Debates and analysis of data help our children show leadership on a range of local, national and international issues. The local area and the extensive school grounds are used for field trips with trips to places such as Swanage Bay, the New Forest National Park and Hill Head supporting the learning of topics in the classroom.
