The teaching of Latin is vibrant and exciting and we aim to make the lessons fast moving and fun at all times. The aims of teaching Latin at West Hill Park are to show the children the relevance of Latin to English and other Romance languages and to enthuse them with our cultural links with the Ancient World.

The pupils begin their Latin in Year 6 where they learn the basics of the language and also study the Roman Empire, how the Romans lived and Roman myths. As the children progress through Year 7 and 8 they continue to acquire language skills and vocabulary and begin to move at different paces according to their abilities, with many children preparing for Common Entrance and other senior school entrance exams. We hope to send children on from West Hill Park with a sound basis of Latin and a thirst to learn more.
