The aim at WHP is to make the learning of Latin and Classical Civilisation as interesting and fun as possible. The children explore the relevance of Latin to English and other Romance languages, and are encouraged to be curious about our cultural links with the Ancient World.

The children begin their Latin in Year 6 where they learn the basics of the language and also study the Roman Empire, how the Romans lived and Roman myths. As the children progress through Year 7 and 8, they continue to acquire language skills and vocabulary of the subject alongside collaborative studies of other classical civilisations, with role-play used widely to bring the language and the stories to life. We aim for the children to leave West Hill Park with a confident grasp of the language, a passion for the subject and a thirst to learn more.
